The project aims to develop a prototype for the semi-automated drafting of legal advice products (LEOGEN - Legal Opinion Generator). The prototype intends to provide customers with legal information quickly and cost-effectively through an online interface. Information collection is controlled by an input form and decision trees. An algorithm calculates which of the text modules stored in the system fit as an answer to the individual case progressively described by the user. The resulting draft text is then checked by legal experts before it is forwarded to the customer. The prototype targets citizens who need information about their legal situation in a short time and at a reasonable cost, as an information source or as a basis for requesting more detailed professional advice. The prototype is initially developed only for a limited number of specific legal situations.
As part of a sub-contract, the Institute for Applied Linguistics provides scientific advice on writing legal texts in simple language (input forms, text modules), participates in testing the online product and revises text modules in Italian.
