Risk and Vulnerability Assessments

At the request of local and regional governments, we develop and implement risk and vulnerability assessments scrutinizing the potential impacts of natural hazards and climate change. We take an interdisciplinary approach to this work, integrating both quantitative and qualitative analyses at various spatial and temporal scales. The outcomes are used in the development of mitigation and adaptation measures. Our group can offer methods and indicators to assess the cost-effectiveness of various strategies within multi-criteria approaches that are tailored to the needs of the different users.
A region’s vulnerability and resilience to environmental changes is often best described in terms of qualitative data. We have extensive expertise in organising and moderating workshops and interviews that engage all stakeholders in a risk dialogue. These meetings can elicit a broad range of local experiences and know-how, which is essential to a comprehensive qualitative assessment.
