Data Infrastructures and Services
Center for Sensing Solutions
01.01.2019 - 31.12.2020
The project "Data Infrastructures and Services (DIS)" is planned to maintain and foster the cloud computing, the big data storage and data infrastructures in the field of environmental sensing applications where it serves to consolidate and maintain operational different systems and platforms that have already been developed within the last years in various projects at Eurac and that provide operational services.
The project has the objective to constantly maintain and upgrade the existing cloud computing platform and provided services that has been setup and implemented within MONALISA, SAO (Sentinel Alpine Observatory) and LTER projects. It also aims at maintaining operational the running services provided by the Eurac SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) and Geo/Spatial applications (WP 6).
A further objective is to maintain operational the satellite data receiving, and the services developed so far as part of the Eurac Receiving Station, removing “end of life” obsolete hardware and replacing proprietary software solutions with more convenient Open Source alternatives in order to improve functionality and mitigate additional maintenance costs in future (WP5).
We will also prepare all the activities necessary to integrate the existing cloud infrastructure and services with the elements for the new EDP (Environmental Data Platform) that will be defined and implemented through the project DPS4ESLAB. This will host environmental data coming from different sources, and here, among others, the Institute for Earth Observation is an important contributor and stakeholder for the data platform (WP 2, WP 3, WP 4).
