The project Comparing "Bildungssprache": analysis of the language competence of (especially South Tyrolean) German L1 learners on the basis of corpora started in January 2010 in collaboration with the Faculty of Education of the Free University of Bozen - Bolzano and the Institut für Germanistik at the University of Innsbruck.
In this project, L1 learner corpora with rich sociolinguistic metadata are to be created from written production data by pupils and students in North and South Tyrol as well as in Germany.
These corpora will then be analysed to compare the learners' language competence - with a focus on the use of formulaic language - taking into account the sociolinguistic factors, in order to create an empirical basis for discussions on the German language in South Tyrol.
