KLIMAST - Climate change in South Tyrol - how sensitive are we?
Abstract
The aim of the project is to analyse the vulnerability of South Tyrol towards climate change and extreme meteorological phenomena, as well as to perform interdisciplinary research on provincial level regarding climate change and the effects of such changes.
For the three main research fields (remote sensing, eco-hydrology and tourism) various methods for the detection and evaluation of the climate change impacts will be developed, improved and combined with each other. In a second phase these methods will be applied to case studies in the Province of Bolzano.
The final product of the project will be a broad evaluation report on the vulnerability of South Tyrol towards climate change. The report will include not only the results of the case studies, but also the results of surveys between experts and of workshops to be held in close cooperation with the local administration. The report could be the first step towards the implementation of a broad adaptation strategy of the Province.
The project will be realised by the department of Sustainable Development (Institutes for Applied Remote Sensing, for Alpine Environment and for Regional Development and Location Management), in close cooperation with the Province.
