LAWINA - Landslide detection and windfall assessments based on COSMO-SKYMED X-BAND data
Abstract
The COSMO-SkyMed program is designed to enhance the monitoring and management of the Earth for applications including civil protection (management of environmental hazards), defense and security, as well as scientific and commercial applications. All weather and Day/Night acquisition capabilities, short revisit times and very high spatial resolution provide new opportunities for SAR data applications in the field of risk management. Within the scope of the project LAWINA the benefit of COSMO-SkyMed data for improved identification and monitoring tasks concerning two hazards are studied:
1. the Permanent Scatterer PSInSAR technique will be applied in the area of Corvara, a slow moving landslides threatening villages and infrastructure in the tourist destination of the Dolomites. The results will be compared with previous studies and added value of the integration of C-band and X-band radar data will be evaluated
2. the integration of COSMO-SkyMed data with data from other sensors is tested for the identification of areas affected by windfall.
