The Data Center is composed of an interoperable Big Data Storage and a Cloud Computing Platform based on open source and freely accessible software technology.
Big Data Storage
Built on a software defined storage (SDS) architecture based on Ceph, our Big Data Storage has currently a capacity of 1,2 Petabyte. The high scalability poses its biggest virtue, making it possible to easily extend this commodity hardware based storage by simply adding more disks.
Selected data discovery is available at http://sdi.eurac.edu/geonetwork through a Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW), which is OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) compliant. Full access is granted to authenticated users.
Cloud Computing Platform
The platform is managed using OpenNebula built on a powerful infrastructure of more than 300 processors (CPUs) and 3 Terabyte of RAM. The services can be accessed through various channels with different degrees of freedom and responsibility:
- OpenNebula web-user-interface: Create and manage your own virtual machines based on a quota of hardware resources at http://saocompute.eurac.edu/opn_sunstone/.
- SSH connection via LoginApp: Access, manage and operate your dedicated virtual machine at ssh://saocompute.eurac.edu.
- Time Series Visualization and Analysis Services: Discover, query and visualize the Sentinel Alpine Observatory products at http://saots.eurac.edu .
