exCHANGE

Project description

In today’s world, we observe growing inequalities across various domains, including access to natural resources, wealth distribution, social opportunities, healthcare, education, and cultural and political representation. The increasing complexity of these challenges calls for innovative approaches to both conducting and disseminating research.

Art and science share the same spirit, trying to understand and describe the world we live in, creating new ways of communication and inquiry. Moreover, both engage multiple audiences at once, initiate discussions, provoke thoughts, evoke emotions, and have the potential to trigger stronger motivations for societal change and transformation. However, art and science are two traditionally divided fields that often travel on parallel tracks. This project aims to question disciplinary divisions in academia and society to generate inter- and transdisciplinary approaches for mitigating current inequalities.

In collaboration with the Südtiroler Künstlerbund, the exCHANGE project invites researchers and artists from diverse disciplines in South Tyrol to form transdisciplinary tandems. These tandems will delve into the intersections of their respective fields, engaging in joint explorations that encompass both research and artistic creation.

The project offers a unique platform for innovative thinking, knowledge exchange, and creative expression. Selected participants will collaboratively delve into critical issues, drawing inspiration from each other’s expertise to craft imaginative solutions. By combining the analytical rigor of scientific inquiry with the imaginative power of artistic creation, participants will work towards a deeper understanding of inequalities and envision transformative pathways. The resulting outcomes hold the potential to not only reshape research and artistic practices but also contribute to broader societal discourse and action towards a more equitable world.

The various artistic outputs will be presented at an exhibition/festival and put on display.
